Carlene MacMillan, M.D.
Chief Executive Officer
Carlene MacMillan is proud to lead Brooklyn Minds as CEO. In founding this company her goal was to provide care for clients who were unable to succeed in other settings. Her growing team of clinicians and support staff are achieving this goal every day. Dr. MacMillan completed her undergraduate + medical degrees at Harvard, and completed her adult psychiatry residency + child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mass General Hospital and McLean Hospital; she is board certified in both.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr. MacMillan held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and NYU School of Medicine. In addition to her leadership role at Brooklyn Minds, she treats clients together with a private assertive community treatment team called Ellenhorn, where they help individuals with complex mental health needs stay in the community rather than in hospitals and other institutional settings. She is involved in teaching fellow clinicians and consumers on local and national levels and is on the board of Emotions Matter, Inc., a non-profit that advocates and raises awareness about borderline personality disorder.
Dr. MacMillan’s training in evidence-based treatments for personality disorders in adolescents/adults includes DBT and Mentalization-Based Therapy -- MBT, both of which can be helpful for couples, families and even business partners. Brooklyn Minds specializes in MBT and they work together as a team to give clients the highest level of support. Mentalization for Teams is designed for individuals who have traditionally been “hard to reach, hard to teach” and on the edge of care. As the leader of a growing company, Dr. MacMillan has become particularly interested in using cutting-edge technology to improve outcomes and scale what they do to reach more clients across the country while at the same time maintaining the “secret sauce” quality care that Brooklyn Minds is known for.
While Dr.MacMillan has limited availability for ongoing individual cases at this time, she co-leads several MBT groups in the practice, is available for clinical consultations and provides supervision in MBT and MBT for Teams
