Carlene MacMillan, M.D.
I am proud to be one of the co-founders and the Clinical Director of Brooklyn Minds. My undergraduate + medical degrees are from Harvard, I completed my adult psychiatry residency + child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mass General Hospital and McLean Hospital and am board certified in both. Prior to entering private practice, I held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and NYU School of Medicine. In addition to my leadership role at Brooklyn Minds, I am the psychiatrist for a private assertive community treatment team called Ellenhorn where we help individuals with complex mental health needs stay in the community rather than in hospitals and other institutional settings. I am involved in teaching fellow clinicians and consumers on local and national levels and am on the board of Emotions Matter, Inc., a non-profit that advocates and raises awareness about borderline personality disorder. I am comfortable addressing a wide variety of psychological concerns, including tensions that can come with typical child and adolescent development, the transition to young adult hood and existential concerns across the lifespan.
My training in evidence-based treatments for personality disorders in adolescents/adults includes DBT and Mentalization-Based Therapy -- MBT can be helpful for couples, families and even business partners. I work to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that may include medications, psychotherapy or both and work very collaboratively with my patients.
